THIRTY ONE IS THE BLESSED NUMBER

Looking Back….

When November babies are asked to stand up, be sure I will be one of them. As a Catholic Christian, today (20/11/2016) happens to be the same day we are celebrating The Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe and so is my 31st Birthday. Today, I can comfortably say how old I am/how young I am, a thing I could not do 11 years ago. Back then, I bet  I was suffering from small/young man syndrome reason being that I joined the Police Service at the age 19 and the environment where Police training was taking place, age, seniority, rank, physical size and all other subjective attributes really counted for one to be listened to which made me feel less of a man as I was young and puny!

The training was no better too because as a Police recruit, one had no say at the training school and all that I remember instructors telling  us almost all the time  was that ‘Mumeshinda wazazi na ulimwengu pia na kwa hivyo hapa hamtatushinda’. This was to mean that we were life rejects and we had failed in all aspects of life hence we joined the Police Force for lack of another option hence the training was more of a punishment but not an avenue to make us better. I was all long a focused, determined, bold, courageous and determined young man but that was quickly eroded and I was a shell of myself.( http://kaberemartin.blogspot.co.ke/2013/10/goodbye-my-lovely-village-kiaritha.html )

With that defeated mind, I remember vividly that by the time I passed out from GSU Training School (2005), I had very low self esteem but from outside, no one could notice this as the outside world barely knows what happens in a Police Training School/College and the impact it has to an individual. After all, Police Officers are super beings! That said and done, the journey to my 31st birthday has been that of ups and downs more so due to my career that has shaped much of my life to date.

From age 19 and more  so after leaving GSU Training School Embakasi (http://kaberemartin.blogspot.co.ke/2013/10/life-in-gsu-training-school-embakasi-my.html) it took very few months for the full impact of Police Training and more so work station (http://kaberemartin.blogspot.co.ke/2013/12/life-in-my-first-work-stationwelcome-to.html) what we call Msituni (In the Jungle) was *loudly* visible in my day to day lifestyle. From occasional drunkenness to sexual immorality, Mwangi Wa Kiaritha was  completely a new outfit, a rotten one to be precise. May be, this was a way to cope with the culture shock plus the small man syndrome but frankly speaking, i thank God am alive. Fast forward, while on a drinking spree, my drink was spiked (the last day I took beer), parted ways with the mother of my first born, had another kid with another lady (that was the turning point in my life).

Moving forward and by the grace of God, I quit drinking, Joined KCA University for my Undergraduate studies, where I struggled with low self esteem and eventually overcame it (http://kaberemartin.blogspot.co.ke/2014/05/how-i-joined-kca-university-and.html) Joined Institute of Human Resource Management for my post graduate Diploma (was the best KNEC student-Fundamentals of Human Resource Management) and Later University of Nairobi (http://kaberemartin.blogspot.co.ke/2014/09/my-experience-at-university-of-nairobi.html) for my Masters degree where I graduated in 2014. I also Joined the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (I thank God once more for retrieving me from the trenches) and on 27th/08/2016,I married Jenny,  the Love of my life in a colorful church wedding and all I can say is, to God be the Glory.
Thanks heavens I have since moved to the General Duties (http://kaberemartin.blogspot.co.ke/2016/06/one-year-in-blue.html) and this year, 28th December 2016,God willing, I will be celebrating 12 years in the Police Service and looking back, I thank God for everything that happened in my past, both good and bad and I can testify that God Lives!

Now,i can face anyone without any issues...
